Aimee is an imaginary friend, but probably also real. In January 2009 I found a pile of abandoned toys next to a walking path in an Edinburgh suburb. On the cover of a children's book was a hand-written text: "This belongs to Aimee Anderson, age 2, nursery next year". Aimee became my imaginary friend, a being of absence, stitched together from traces and stories sprung from what is left.
She embodies alternate realities, the endless possibilities and what-ifs. Coming up with theories on AImee's fate involves pseudo-investigative work based on facts and statistics as well as completely made up plot points based on nothing more but unconscious hopes and fears.
The first part of the project is a small photo series on Aimee's things found in 2009. Aimee's story will continue.
