Heirs of Time is a collection of views painted with water colours on a bowl of water and then captured as long-exposure photographs.
Painting on water is like writing a diary entry from decades ago - an attempt to reach what is lost and resists a clear form. I painted outlines of various views from memory; Italian villages, nocturnal gardens and overgrown forest paths.
The resulting photographs document the desperate process of recollection - as wandering masses of colour and entwining shapes, with only a haunting suggestion of the scene from which they originate.
The photographs are printed on aquarelle paper. The series was exhibited at Mikkeli Photographic Centre in 2014.
